Some of the public toilets that the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has contracted out to the private sector are clean, but others are just as dirty as those in government buildings and schools. One of the exceptions is the well-maintained KMC-run “City Service Center” (CSC), which provides not only toilets but also bathing facilities, a hair dresser, restaurant and locker services. Still there are little more than 30 KMC-run public toilets and lack of land is preventing further expansion, compelling the KMC to look at alternatives like mobile toilets.
