Under current UK legislation, all female washrooms should have suitable means for the hygienic disposal of sanitary waste. I think that this would help the social effects for young girls in particular, especially on a girls night out.

My sincere congratulations to my friend and colleague Peter Morgan with whom I worked for over 20 years at the Blair Research Laboratory. He richly deserves this award, I hope the attention it gets will help focus the international community on realistic approaches to improve water supplies and sanitation where is is urgently needed, rather than trying to re-invent the wheel
We should note Pliny’s quote “out of Africa always comes something new” the world should focus on this work

Where?, who?How will i save my pupils? We did research on MHM and we are stuck with it.Who will go through it?and shall i keep them in school without the sanitary pads?How do they catch up with the lessons learn t while they were nursing their menses at home?Kindly help my kids…or the gender parity we do talk about isn’t sustainable.

We are their counter-part for Design, Engineering & Manufacturing operations for such machinery.

We have already commissioned our first set of machines in end-Feb 2013 at Raigunj, Uttar Dinajpur District, West Bengal for a DRDC Project & the owner-SHG is producing 200 pkts (2000 pcs) of Rectangular Napkin per day as on date. Our second set of machines, of same capacity, are ready for despatch to Faridkot, Punjab and due for commissioning in end-May 2013.

Nice Approach / Efforts. However one simple request is that such approaches should not be limited to the Hand washing only. It should include all other important Hygiene Practices, like Food Hygiene, Safe Water Handling & Storage and General Cleanliness etc.
Anyway, this a good starting and such forum like Cluster Meeting, VWC etc. may perhaps move ahead step by step. Best Wishes for the Success …… .

Semi-automatic napkin manufacturing machines are available in West Bengal. I am associated with this particular initiative for last 17 years and for the last five years, I was in charge of Menstrual Hygiene Management Initiative in West Bengal, which was a collaborative venture between UNICEF Dept. of Panchayats & Rural Development, Govt. of West Bengal and under this Initiative, we have installed eleven units to manufacture low cost and hygienic sanitary napkins. Products manufactured by some of the units have obtained ‘satisfactory’ Quality Certification as per BIS Standards. I, in collaboration with a Kolkata-based Enginerring company named SASS Engineershave developed upgraded machineries, One machine have already been installed in Uttar Dinajpur District in WBengal and another set of machineries is going tobe installed in Faridkot district in Punjab in next 15 days.
