Ethiopia – Ministry to count water, sanitation, hygiene facilities

Jan 29, 2011 – The Ministry of Water and Energy said that it has finalized preparations to begin counting the number of potable water, sanitation and hygiene facilities available in the country.

Ministry Public Relations and Communication Directorate Director, Bizuneh Tolcha, told WIC today that the counting process will be carried out from February-June, 2011.

He said the counting process to be carried out with an outlay of 123 million birr, would help perform integrated activities besides strengthening water, sanitation and hygiene programs.

Moreover, it would enable to design a plan based on factual and set up an effective water resource management, Bizuneh indicated.

According to Bizuneh, the counting process will be carried out in SNNP, Oromia, Amhara, Tigray, Somali and Benihsnagul Gumuz states as well as in Addis Ababa City Administration.

He said a week-long training was provided to pertinent bodies for the success of the counting process, it was noted.
