To create awareness about the need of hand washing before taking a meal among the school childrens, the State Government on Monday decided to provide liquid soaps to all the primary schools in the State.
Speaking to the Mediapersons here on Monday at the Orissa Secretariat, School and Mass Education Minister Pratap Jena said a special programme has been taken up with collaboration among UNICEF, Redcross, Health and Family Welfare Department and sanitation cell of Rural Development Department to create mass campaign for making children learn to wash hands before diet. “The programme would certainly spread to other people once the children practice hand washing before a meal,” the Minister hoped.
Sri Jena informed that Self Help Groups would be given responsibility to provide liquid soaps to the schools regularly. The SHGs would be given technical know-how to manufacture liquid soaps and be provided financial assistances for the same.
Recently, almost all the primary schools and some NGOs observed the World Hand Washing Day in the State.
